Bunnie XO and Jelly Roll danced the night away at their first prom, all thanks to someone who recently went to her own prom.
On Dec. 3, the "Dumb Blonde" podcast host posted a video on Instagram sharing that Jelly Roll's daughter and her stepdaughter, Bailee, 17, threw the couple a surprise prom because they had never attended one on their own.
"Hey, they're here," Bailee said at the start of the video as her father and stepmother arrived. "Oh my gosh, you look like you're at a prom."
The two showed up to the event hand-in-hand, and Bunnie XO strutted in a long blue and white floral dress.
"I learned a powerful lesson as a parent this week. Bailee has always hated school dances. But because J and I never went to ours, we’ve always pushed her: 'Go make memories. Go have the experiences we missed,'" Bunnie XO wrote on the video.
After clips of exchanging hugs with guests, Bunnie XO opened up about this year's hardships.
"This year has been heavy — schedules, mental health, burnout…all of it. We’ve kept to ourselves, and we hate surprises. So when Bailee texted saying she had one for us, I spiraled," Bunnie XO wrote. "Especially after we swore there’d be no surprises for J’s birthday.
"But we showed up for our girl anyway … even with tired hearts," she added.
Bunnie XO said Bailee planned the whole party. And Bailee went all out to see her parents smile.
"What we walked into stopped us in our tracks — a full room of friends and family…a night she called ‘Under the Stars,'" Bunnie XO wrote.
In the video, Bunnie XO and Jelly Roll walked under a balloon arch with stars into a room filled with cheering loved ones and a big "A Night Under the Stars" sign.
Bailee made a speech at the prom and went on to crown the two as prom king and queen.
When planning, Bailee paid attention to the little details too. Bunnie XO said that there were sugar-free mocktails made especially for her.
"And the lesson? Time is the most precious thing we own. Spend it on your people. The memories you make with them will outlive everything else," Bunnie wrote.
Jelly Roll, born Jason Bradley DeFord, is Bailee's father and has a son Noah, 8, from previous relationships. The two do not have biological children together. However, Bunnie XO, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, cherishes her relationship with her step-kids and motherhood.
Now, the family got to share each other's prom nights together. Last April, she and Jelly Roll got to watch Bailee attend her prom, which was a teary-eyed moment for the two.
